Nearby Van Horn, Texas made international news recently as the launch site for Amazon.com founder Jeff Bezos’ Blue Origin rocket. The rocket ascended to 331,500 feet and returned for an
upright landing on the dusty desert landing pad roughly 120 miles from El Paso.

The rocket is part of a long-term project to make reusable rockets capable of taking people and equipment to space safely and inexpensively.

In a nod to Texas culture, Jeff Bezos tweeted a picture of his cowboy boots up on a desk, along with an announcement of the successful launch.
