Whether you file your taxes with your long-time tax preparer, on your own from your couch or with the FREE help of VITA Tax Assist, it is important to us that you get the most out of your tax refund! Follow these steps to help avoid any delays in receiving your tax refund.

UPDATE YOUR INFORMATION

Check over your paperwork from last year and make any necessary updates to your information before you visit with your tax preparer or start your online tax filing.

BRING ALL THE PARTIES TOGETHER

If you’re filing a joint tax return, make sure that both parties are present during filing and that both parties are listed on the bank account that your tax refund will be deposited into.

CHECK YOUR ACCOUNT

Before filing your taxes, decide which bank account you will deposit it into. Make sure that it is still active and that you mark correctly whether it is a savings or checking account.

BE PREPARED

Make sure that you have the correct routing and account numbers for the account that you will deposit your tax refund into so that there are no delays with your deposit. Check with your financial institution for your routing number.
