WHEN THE COMMUNITY COMES TOGETHER, WE CAN DO SOME GOOD

For a second year in a row, the GECU Foundation has collaborated with Rebuilding Together — a nonprofit organization that repairs homes, revitalizes communities and rebuilds lives — to help people in our own community. The organization works to bring lasting change to the El Paso community by providing older adults, people with disabilities, and veterans with necessary improvements and safety enhancements in their homes. We are proud to support our partners and other nonprofit organizations in the community to elevate El Paso.

13 volunteers made up of GECU employees and community members helped paint one of the homes that Rebuilding Together is supporting in their 2021 fiscal year. They were there to put the finishing touches to preserve the condition of a home and to support the mental and spiritual well-being of the homeowner. The owner is a veteran that has lived in his adobe home for more than 65 years that was built by his grandfather. During this event, we painted the exterior of the house and installed grab bars and a ramp to make his home more accessible. The walkway to the street was repaired and the front door was replaced to include a proper lock. We are so proud of our volunteers and thank them for showing the community what the people helping people philosophy can really do for everyone.
