Do You Qualify For Free VITA Tax Preparation?
In 2017, VITA volunteers in the El Paso area helped local families claim 14.2 million dollars in tax refunds, and are on track to help even more families in 2018. Anyone with a household income of $54,000 a year or less can have their taxes filed for free, with a volunteer at a VITA site. Anyone with a household income of $62,000 or less can use our free online tax preparation software.
Take Advantage of the EITC
Each year, about 96 million dollars in the state of Texas went unclaimed by families who did not take advantage of the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC).
Earned Income Tax Credit is a federal tax credit for low and moderate-income community members. This supports working tax payers and helps offset federal payroll and income taxes. This tax credit may help tax payers get an additional refund.
VITA can help you find out if you qualify for an EITC, even if you don’t think you earned enough to file taxes. They can even look back up to three years to see if you qualify.
