In honor of our 85th Anniversary, we’ll be sharing 85 reasons to love GECU. Check back for more reasons as we continue to celebrate this milestone!
75. FREE CREDIT COUNSELLING
Whether you’re trying to build credit or repair it, GECU is here to help. Our financial coaches provide free, personalized credit counselling to help you get your score where you want it to be! It’s just another way we put our people helping people philosophy into action.
74. MILITARY APPRECIATION
The military is an important part of our community. We honor everyone who serves and has served our country. That’s why we support the military, everything from sponsoring events on base to adopting a unit, the 1-43 ADA Battalion, at Fort Bliss. These are just some of the ways we say “thank you for your service!”
We have the most branches of any financial institution in our community. From Artcraft and Upper Valley on the Westside, to Sean Haggerty and Marcus Uribe in the Northeast, all the way to North Loop and Horizon Blvd in the Lower Valley, there are a lot of choices when you need a branch. Stop by one of our 22 branches today and say hi!
72. JEANS DAYS
Have you ever noticed your local GECU staff wearing jeans on a Friday? There’s a great reason for that- every other Friday, employees who make a voluntary contribution to a local charity get to wear jeans to work. That’s over 800 employees donating money to over 20 different nonprofit organizations! When you see denim at GECU, you know we’re pitching in to make a difference in our community.
You know when GECU is at an event, there’s a good chance you’re going to walk away with some great stuff. From t-shirts to cups to flashlights, you just never know what we’re going to give away next!
Every year, GECU Community Development, along with our community partners, spearheads the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance or VITA program, which helps hard-working families in our community file their taxes for free. In 2017 our program helped over 7,600 people receive more than $13.8 million in tax refunds, free of charge. That’s money that stayed here in our community; going into our economy and helping people build a financially stable future.
69. DRU BLUE
Have you met Dru? Dru Blue is our fun-loving mascot and he helps us teach the importance of financial education to children at schools and events throughout the community. He’s furry, he’s friendly, and if you see him around town, come over and say hi!
68. WE’RE UTEP PILLAR PARTNERS-
As a credit union, education is a big part of what we do. UTEP shares our mission and vision of creating a prosperous community through education. That’s why we’re proud to Pick up our axe and support UTEP as we work together to build a thriving community!
67. FINANCIAL EDUCATION
Want to learn how to build a budget, buy a home, or avoid identity theft? GECU Community Development offers free financial education seminars on these topics and more, around the community, all year. What’s more, our financial coaches back up these seminars with free, one on one counseling to help you get the most out of what you’ve learned. Education is part of our mission as a credit union and we’re happy to share this knowledge with our community.
66. COOL CARDS
We’re proud of our El Paso roots and all of our debit and credit cards show it. Our Empowerment debit and credit cards are full of inspiring words to lead our members to success. Every time you use it, you’re reminded that you’ve got a whole team at GECU supporting you and rooting for your success.
